Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 August 2026

Global Integrated Media Enterprises (GIME) operates this website and the membership accounts available on it. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It is written to meet our obligations under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

Your data

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — your email address, password, and optionally your full name, phone number and country. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash; we never hold your password in a readable form.
  • Google sign-in — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password and we cannot access anything else in your Google account.
  • Enquiries — anything you send us through a contact or enquiry form, including your name, email address and the content of your message.

Information we collect automatically

  • Server logs — your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of each request. These are ordinary web server records used to keep the site running and secure.
  • Cookies and local storage — see the section on cookies below.

We do not buy personal data from third parties, and we do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics on this site.

Purpose

How we use it

  • To create and operate your membership account, and to sign you in.
  • To respond to enquiries you send us.
  • To send you service messages — email verification, password resets, and notices about changes to your account or to these terms.
  • To keep the platform secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose faults.
  • To meet legal and accounting obligations.

We rely on your consent where you gave it (for example, by creating an account or submitting a form), and otherwise on our legitimate interest in running a secure and functioning service, or on a legal obligation where one applies.

Our sibling platform

Ufasaha wa Lugha

GIME is the parent company of Ufasaha wa Lugha (Learn 2 Learn), the Kiswahili learning platform at ufasahawalugha.co.ke. The two platforms keep separate accounts and separate databases.

If you ask us to link your GIME membership to your Ufasaha learner account, we match the two by email address and then read your enrolment and payment records from Ufasaha so we can show them in your dashboard. This linking only happens when you ask for it. Ufasaha has its own privacy policy covering what it collects when you learn there.

Third parties

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the platform:

  • Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, and only to verify who you are.
  • Our hosting provider — which stores the site and its database on our behalf.
  • Our email provider — which delivers verification, password reset and reply emails.

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

Where your data is held. Our servers are located outside Kenya. Using this site therefore involves transferring your data across borders. We take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected to the standard required by the Data Protection Act, 2019.

Your browser

Cookies and local storage

We use only what the site needs to work. We do not use advertising cookies.

  • Session cookie — keeps you signed in as you move between pages.
  • CSRF cookie — a security token that stops other sites submitting forms as you.
  • Theme preference — your choice of light or dark mode, stored in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers.

You can clear or block these in your browser settings, but the sign-in and forms will stop working if you block the first two.

Retention

How long we keep it

  • Account data — for as long as your account is open, and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can handle disputes and meet accounting obligations.
  • Enquiries — for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and keep a record of our correspondence.
  • Server logs — for a short period, for security and troubleshooting.

You can ask us to delete your account at any time using the contact details below.

Data Protection Act, 2019

Your rights

Under Kenyan law you have the right to:

  • be told how your personal data is being used;
  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate or misleading data corrected;
  • have your data deleted, where we have no continuing reason to keep it;
  • object to how we are processing your data, or ask us to restrict it;
  • receive a copy of your data in a portable form; and
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these, write to info@globalintegratedmedia.org. We will respond as promptly as we can. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.

Safeguards

Security and children

The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and access to the production database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but we will notify you and the regulator if a breach affecting your data occurs, as the law requires.

This site is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Keeping in touch

Changes and contact

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will tell account holders directly where the change is significant.
